Mission

The Total Quality Management Department supports the hospital in improving the quality of care provided to the eligible patients using continuous quality improvement system techniques. It shall also provide support for Systems Control, Systems Improvement and Staff Development activities as part of the TQM Improvement System.

The Armed Forces Medical Services has initiated a Total Quality Management program throughout the Military Health Services network in Saudi Arabia.  The Northern Area Armed Forces Hospital is at the forefront of this initiative which is based on clearly defined professional and organizational standards.

According to the Administrative action by MSD, Ministry of Defense in 2000, Total Quality Management Department in NAAFH .was established to supervise the quality activities in NAAFH and improve the quality of healthcare services provided to the public.

To accomplish this goal, the Total Quality Management Department developed guidelines for the establishment of quality assurance system under guidance of Ministry of Defense.
 

TQM Department supervises and emphasizes on three operational areas,

SYSTEM CONTROL:

It takes control over the review of hospital wide policies and procedures/ documents in guidance with MSD standards.

SYSTEM IMPROVEMENT:

Each department of Northern Armed Forces Hospital under the supervision of TQM Department has to implement Quality Management Program.  The System Improvement Section reviews indicators set by MSD standards both for Clinical and Non clinical areas to implement TQM programs. In addition, Cross functional monitoring are also undertaken by different committees facilitated by TQM Director.

STAFF DEVELOPMENT:

Total Quality Management Department formally formulized educational programs for the purpose of staff development; provide hand on experience about the health care TQM concepts and tools and techniques in leadership, team work, communication, work ethics and efficient customer care.

Total Quality Management Department Provide The Following Facilities

  1. Promoting the concept of the Quality programs of healthcare at all levels.
  2. Providing all necessary updated TQM subjects and information (through consultation and advice) to all areas of Hospital.
  3. Developing and supporting of infrastructure to improve healthcare system (provide healthcare facilities with technical assistance needed to improve Quality system).
  4. Orientating all healthcare personnel towards quality management as an important and necessary system (TQM awareness through training and continuous education).
  5. Developing methods of supervision and follow-up.
  6. Measuring, evaluating and improving the quality of healthcare services (How to implement, monitor, evaluate, take action and follow-up).
  7. Forwarding the necessary recommendations and proposals for development.

Statistics and Planning

Services provided by NAAFH are covered through data collection from (inpatients by departments,  outpatients, ER patients, PHC, Dental,  Patients reporting for lab, radiology and blood bank – delivery by type and mode – ambulance vehicles – medical prescriptions – Dietary, Manpower etc.).

Data collected for infectious diseases, mother & child care, vaccination, deaths & births, length of stay, bed occupancy, Censes, Hospital workers screening and health education activities.

TQM department regularly submits following reports to MSD
1.
      Annual Statistical Report.
2.
      Annual Statistical Analysis.
3.      Quarterly Report
4.
      Monthly Statistical Report
5.
      Hospital Weekly Activity Report
